Here’s what’s happening:

🦟 West Nile Virus Death in the Valley. Health officials confirmed a San Fernando Valley resident died from the virus. Fourteen infections have been reported countywide this year, with half in the Valley. Use insect repellent, eliminate standing water, and repair window screens. (ABC7)

👷 New Wage Proposal for LA Construction Workers: The LA City Council is considering a minimum wage of $32.35/hr for workers on apartment projects with 10 or more units and a height of 85 feet or more. Union-backed projects may be exempt. (LAist)

⚾️ SFV Dodgers Bars in the SFV. Bars and restaurants to watch the Dodgers in the World Series (recommended by you).

🥫 Food Drive at Moby’s (North Hollywood): Moby’s Coffee is collecting shelf-stable foods for a local food bank through the end of December.

💃 Saturday Dance Classes (Mission Hills): Salsa, bachata, swing, and more at this fun weekly class in Brand Park. Bring comfy shoes. First class is free. $10/class. Every Saturday, from 12 PM to 2 PM at 15174 San Fernando Mission Blvd.

Thursday, October 30

🐾 Toluca Lake Dog Parade (Toluca Lake): Annual Halloween dog parade with costume contests, goodie bags, vendor booths, a group walk, and a photo backdrop. Adoptable pups will be on-site. Free. Thursday, October 30, at 5 PM at Logix Bank.

Friday, October 31

🎃 Trick or Treat List. Here’s my Halloween trick-or-treat list. Neighbors shared their favorite places to get candy and admire Halloween decorations. I’ve also updated the list this week in response to reader feedback.

🍺 World Series Watch Party (North Hollywood): Dodgers take on the Blue Jays. Food trucks out front, with $2-off beers. The game will be played with sound inside the taproom. Free. Friday, October 31, at 5 PM at Lawless Brewing.

🐕 NoHo DooDoo Pet Parade (North Hollywood): 17th annual Halloween pet parade. Dress up your pet, take a walk around the block, and take a group photo at the fire hydrant. Free. Friday, October 31, 6 PM at the corner of Willowcrest & Huston.

🕸️ Trunk-Or-Treat at the Museum (Northridge): Head to the Museum of the San Fernando Valley for an all-ages Halloween event. Magic shows, music, a costume contest, and lots of candy. Trunk-or-treat setups, games, and live entertainment. Free. Friday, October 31, from 5 PM to 8 PM at 18904 Nordhoff St.

🎃 LGBTQ+ Halloween Mixer (North Hollywood): Noho Gym is throwing a spooky social night with music, light bites, and fitness-friendly vibes. Mingle with LGBTQ+ and ally professionals, entrepreneurs, and creatives. Costumes encouraged. Donation-based. Friday, October 31, from 8 PM to 11 PM, at NoHo Gym.

Saturday, November 1

💀 El Valle Eterno (Sylmar): Pioneer Cemetery will host a large community Día de los Muertos celebration with food vendors, altars, face painting, photo booths, Aztec dancers, and live performances. Free. November 1, from 2 PM to 9 PM at Pioneer Cemetery.

👢 Square Dance Night (North Hollywood): Never square danced before? Join this monthly LGBTQIA+ friendly dance with a beginner lesson, drinks, and good vibes. $20. Saturday, November 1, from 7 PM to 10 PM at the Mayflower Club.

Sunday, November 2

🥬 Growing Asian Vegetables Workshop (Burbank): Learn how to grow, cook, and preserve Asian vegetables—community class taught by Florence Nishida, founder of LA’s first teaching garden. Leave with knowledge, recipes, and seeds. Free. November 2 from 10 AM to 12 PM, at Hollywood Way and Clark Ave.

🕯️ ‘Practical Magic’ Movie Night (North Hollywood): Watch Practical Magic (1998, Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman) under the stars with a themed outdoor market starting at 3 PM. Vendors will be selling spells, charms, and seasonal goodies. $10. Sunday, November 2, at 7 PM, at Lawless Brewing.

🌕 Moonlight Mystic Market (San Fernando): Tarot, astrology readings, energy healers, magical vendors, and free community workshops at this spiritual night market. There’s also an ofrenda altar and raffle prizes. $5. Sunday, November 2, from 2 PM to 8 PM at 757 North Huntington St.

💀 Day of the Dead Street Festival (Canoga Park): A Day of the Dead festival with live music, dress-up contests, ofrendas, and decorated classic cars on display. Come in costume and wander the altars as the music fills the street. Free. Sunday, November 2, from 12 PM to 8 PM on Sherman Way (Topanga Cyn. Ave. to Canoga Ave.)

📚 Burbank Book Festival (Burbank): Meet-and-greets and signings with dozens of authors across picture books, middle grade, romance, memoir, and adult fiction. Booksellers on site. Panels, vendors, and food trucks. Free. Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 10 AM to 4 PM at Buena Vista Branch Library.

🧤 North Hollywood Neighborhood Clean-Up (North Hollywood): Grab a pair of gloves. Help keep the Valley beautiful. Bring yourself and maybe a friend. Get some fresh air, make a difference, and meet other locals. Saturday, November 8, at 8 AM at 11452 Burbank Blvd.

🎃 “Raveyard” Cafe (San Fernando): House and techno music, costume contest, caramel apples, face painting, and a scavenger hunt. All-ages Halloween pop-up at the San Fernando Coffee Company.
