“I’m sorry the Mets lost, Tony! Let’s pretend the Dodgers are still from Brooklyn?” - NoHo Nick

Here’s what’s happening this week:

LA News

🌊 Southern California's beaches are glowing blue (Los Angeles). Algae is causing the waves to shine electric blue. There are reports of the effect in Torrance and Venice Beach. The glowing spectacle is unpredictable—lasting days or weeks. (LA Times) Obviously, the Pacific Ocean is a Dodgers fan.

🛒 There’s a new Trader Joe's in South Pasadena (Pasadena). This week, Trader Joe's opened a spacious second location on Fair Oaks Avenue, replacing a Vons. Like all Trader Joe’s stores, it will donate 100% of its unsold and unspoiled food to local organizations and food banks. (South Pasadenan) The real question is, how big is the parking lot?

🏡 Burbank officially proposes a 4% rent cap. (Burbank). The Burbank City Council unanimously proposed a policy to cap rent increases at 4% annually. This decision follows a study and community outreach program that showed most residents favored rent controls. Landlords opposed it. The council directed staff to explore protections for landlords. (Burbank Leader)

🚴‍♂️ Pacoima’s new bike path is opening (San Fernando). The community unveiled a 1.4-mile bike path and improved pedestrian walkways at Cindy Montañez Natural Park. Supported by $7.5M in state funding, the project focuses on pedestrian safety and cycling, honoring Elias Rodriguez, a child who died in the park trying to cross the LA River. (NBC Los Angeles)

🗳️ LA Times won’t endorse a Presidential candidate. The Los Angeles Times' billionaire owner has reportedly barred the paper from endorsing a presidential candidate for 2024. The editorial board, known for backing Democratic candidates since 2008, planned to endorse Vice President Harris. However, the paper’s owner, Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, called off the endorsement for unspecified reasons. The Times’ editorial editor quit over this decision. (KTLA) Unspecified reasons.”

Food and Drinks

🍷 Tapas & Latkes Night (North Hollywood): Join Chef Elizabeth Mehditach at Haley’s Wines on November 2nd for a mix of tapas and latkes.
