Here’s what’s happening this week:
LA News
🦖 Prehistoric fossils found at San Pedro High School. Millions of fossils dating back nearly 9 million years were unearthed during construction. Saber-toothed salmon, sea turtles, sharks, dolphins, and megalodons were discovered. The "largest marine bone bed" ever found in California. (Canuro) Proof of dinosaurs? Don’t tell the Florida school boards.
📜 California Governor Gavin Newsom is signing new California laws. Check out a summary of the 991 bills he’s reviewing, signing, and vetoing this week. Notably, he approved the banning of plastic grocery bags in 2026. (LAist) Paper or plastic?
🏠 Eight new emergency homeless shelters were approved for construction around LA. The 24/7 shelters will offer meals, showers, clothing, medical care, mental health support, and substance abuse treatment (City News Service). This is a great move to support our unhoused neighbors.
💳 Most medical debt will be kept off Californians' credit reports next year. The debt isn't forgiven but won't hurt your credit score. This makes it easier to get loans and housing. The law aims to protect consumers from financial burdens due to medical debt. (LAist)

Theater Spotlight
📰 What the Constitution Means to Me (Hollywood) is returning to LA. A new production of a fiery theater show about women and the future of America. In 2019, the LA Times said, “Every man, woman, and teenager in Los Angeles needs to see this play,” when it was playing at the Mark Taper Forum. Imagine Leslie Knope taught a high school civics class. Then, April Ludgate took over. $22. October 3 to 19.
** NoHo Nick’s wife produced this play, so… we in the biz would call this a conflict of interest.
