Here’s what’s happening this week:

🥚 Egg Smuggling Increases. Eggs are expensive. Travelers are trying to smuggle raw eggs across the U.S-Mexico border—a 158% increase over last year. Officials warn that bringing in eggs carries bird flu risks. $10,000 fines if you’re caught. (CNN)

🚛 Wildfire Debris Going to Sylmar. The county changed dumping limits to handle the debris from the Eaton and Palisades fires. Sylmar, in the north Valley, is one of three dumping sites. Locals worry about airborne contaminants. Plus, the landfill has a history of odor and toxic emissions. (LAist)

🚨 Door-to-Door Burbank Scams. Scammers posing as Burbank Water and Power reps are making the rounds trying to sell solar and water services. (BWP)

🍽️ “The Original Pantry” Diner Closes. The iconic 24-hour restaurant in DTLA served its final meal, ending a 101-year run. The diner had stayed open through the Great Depression, WWII, and the new Millennium. Labor disputes and plans for the real estate led to its closure. (LA Magazine)

🌸 Wild Flower Hotline. Starting March 7, a weekly wildflower report will tell you about the upcoming wildflower blooms near Los Angeles. You can call the hotline every Friday through May. Stay on trails, don’t pick the flowers, and leave no trace. (Theodore Payne Foundation)

🧠 Get this week’s trivia answer.

Last week’s question: Which public park in Burbank used to be a Warner Bros. backlot?

Answer: —

Correction: Last week’s trivia question has no correct answer. I was trying to feature Johnny Carson Park near Warner Bros. Studios. Unfortunately, I misunderstood the history of the park. The park is across from the former NBC Studios, where "The Tonight Show" was filmed during Carson's tenure. It’s one of my favorite walking trails and dog parks.

Thanks for reading, and see you next week!

PS This week, I heard a Maya Angelou quote: “Every storm runs out of rain.” Maybe it speaks to you, too.
