The LA Dodgers won the 2024 World Series!
This is their 8th World Series championship.
When the Dodgers won the Series in 2020, COVID prevented a parade—players and fans are ecstatic about a redo.
This year’s parade will honor Fernando Valenzuela, a historic Dodgers pitcher who passed away last week.
Long live “Fernandomania.”
Long live the Dodgers.
And long live Los Angeles.

Here’s what’s happening this week:
LA News
🎬 New proposed California film tax credits. There are plans to double California’s film and TV tax credits from $330M to $750M annually to revive Hollywood production. Supported by Mayor Karen Bass, the move would support job growth and help LA’s entertainment industry stay competitive globally. Approval is pending next year’s budget. (Deadline) Stay alive to 2025!
🏡 $827M of new funding to tackle California homelessness, with $380M for Los Angeles. There are over 120,000 unhoused residents in LA County. Governor Newsom stressed the urgency of addressing this issue in a speech in Downtown LA this week. He urged accountability and a “crisis mindset” to provide aid immediately. The new money will provide housing and services. (FOX LA)
⚾️ LAPD braces for Dodgers celebrations. LAPD is gearing up for “unruly celebrations” across LA this week. Following the Dodgers’ World Series win, fans are lighting fireworks and performing street stunts, prompting unlawful assembly orders. The city urges fans to celebrate responsibly. (LA City Mayor) There will undoubtedly be helicopters.
💩 Sewer bills for LA property owners will rise by 22% through 2028. The price hike of approximately $20 per month will fund repairs and upgrades to old sewer infrastructure. The change will start showing up on October bills. (San Fernando Sun) This is a crappy joke.
🌊 Has LA smelled this week? Yes. Southern California’s coastline is glowing with “red tide” waves at night, courtesy of bioluminescent algae. However, a pungent, fishy odor is lingering in the air from Santa Monica to the Valley. The colorful spectacle brings a strong smell during the day. (LA Times) …, and it somehow still smells better than New York. 👃
⛰️ Buyout program for landslide victims (Palos Verdes). Homeowners affected by the landslide in Rancho Palos Verdes can apply for a new $42 million voluntary home buyout program. Eligible residents will receive pre-disaster property market value from FEMA and state funds to leave the area for good. This comes after months of land movement and utility shutdowns. (KTLA)
