Here’s what’s happening this week.
🪳 Erewhon reopens after a cockroach infestation. Erewhon Market in Santa Monica closed on April 8 after a health inspection found a vermin infestation. The store has since reopened. Erewhon is opening in Glendale in late 2025. (CBS) Maybe the cockroaches wanted to try the $20 strawberry?
🚫 LAUSD blocks Homeland Security from entering schools. The agents claimed they were conducting "wellness checks on unaccompanied minors.” LAUSD said the visits violated school protocol. They also said officers lied about receiving permission from the students’ parents and caretakers. (NBC4)
🗑️ LA plans trash collection fee hike. Two LA City Council committees have approved a plan to raise trash collection fees: 54% for single-family homes and 130% for multi-family units. They cite a $1 billion city budget shortfall. The fee would rise to $55.94 per month starting January 2026. (Daily Breeze)
🛣️ Pacific Coast Highway set to reopen in May. Part of the PCH has been closed since January’s fires in the Palisades. The stretch between Chautauqua Boulevard and Carbon Beach Terrace will reopen one lane in each direction before the end of May. (Patch)

🧵 Collage Night (Glendale): Craft with friends or zone out to music at Free Collage Night hosted by Art Club, an artist collective for mutual aid and experimental pop-ups. Supplies provided. Includes clothing swap and creative vibes. Free. Friday, April 18 at 7:00 PM.
🔧 Repair Café (Arcadia): Bring your broken electronics, jewelry, or bikes to this community repair pop-up at the Arcadia Library. Volunteers offer electronic repair, stitching, knife sharpening, and more. Includes a “Really Really Free Market” — donate or take home something useful. Free. Saturday, April 19 at 10:00 AM.

🐣 Easter Tiki Fest (Valley Village): Kahuna Tiki Tu hosts an Easter-themed market with tiki cocktails, live music, sushi, and a 4 PM egg hunt. Vendors, tropical vibes, and extended hours till midnight. Free. Saturday, April 19. 12:00–5:00 PM
🍻 Bottle Share (Studio City): Brews Brothers and Pour Decisions host this community beer night. Bring your favorite or rare beer to share with fellow enthusiasts and make new friends. $20. Tuesday, April 22. 7:00 PM

🔬 The world’s first “live sperm racing competition” will kick off in Los Angeles. The event hopes to blend fertility awareness with live entertainment.
